About Medway SC

On the 16th of November, 1986, The Medway Scooter Club was formed. A meeting was held and 17 people from various local clubs wanted a united club and a collective banner to ride under. The meeting culminated in a name (The Medway SC) and various rules of membership. One of the most fundamental (and still applicable) rules was ownership and use of a scooter. Another, was only Medway residents were allowed to join. This rule has only just been extended to cover those people with strong ties to the area and also the club, and only in exceptional circumstances.

To date only one person, out of the 40 that have been members, has resided outside of the area when joining (they now currently live in Medway, however). Since establishment The Medway SC has become the longest continuously running club in the area. Although the club has never surpassed the initial membership numbers, the current membership total is 17. Of these current Members, 1 is an original member with another 10 serving over 10 years.

In the 80's virtually every club had a patch, and thus were readily identified, whether they were homemade, printed or embroidered. The Medway SC decided to do things a little differently with a 4-inch square embroidered patch that would change its design every year. As far as we are aware we are the only Club in the country (and possibly the world!) who change our patch every year. Since the first meeting, rules have been updated and now include the provision that each prospective member MUST attend a continental rally before membership is considered. Contrary to popular opinion, the Isle of Wight does not constitute a continental rally. Prospective members have to be known by all of the Club before a decision on membership is taken. Upon voting a prospective member in, if there are any votes against their membership, then they are denied. This is to ensure that any new member is totally accepted by current members. Prior to joining the recruit must then undergo an initiation test or tests, chosen by the last member to join.

Over the years the club has attended a vast amount of events, and we can proudly say we have attended more events and covered more miles on scooters than any other club ever in Medway and probably Kent. We put the name Medway on the map by doing these events. We had members present at 42 consecutive national rallies at one stage. We are now regulars on European rallies and have even attended a rally in Chicago, USA. We have also entered numerous sporting events from road racing, trials, navigations, gymkhanas and grass track... with many trophies to prove the point. We have also entered custom shows and have the trophies to show for this as well!

Over the last 20 or so years, there have existed many scooter clubs in the Medway area. The following is a list of those that spring to mind, any additions would be greatly appreciated.
